MATERIAL SELECTOR

Start with the delivery condition.

Supplier values are identified by product and condition. Yield limits marked ≤ describe formability, not a minimum strength for stress calculations. Approximate physical constants are labelled separately.

MASS / ESTIMATE

Sheet weight

m = L × W × t × ρ / 10⁹

Rectangular blank; no deduction for holes or cutouts. Coating mass excluded. Density can be replaced with supplier data.

PURCHASING INPUTS

Specify more than the grade.

  • Steel: grade + product standard + delivery state + finish/coating.
  • Aluminium: alloy + temper + sheet product standard. O/H111, H14 and H22 are different design inputs.
  • Thickness, width, flatness and tolerance class; rolling direction if relevant to forming.
  • Surface protection, visible face, grain direction and required inspection document.
